17 life-long friends and one 90's camcorder went to Croatia and accidentally returned with a video to show the grandchildren...
I was gifted a 90's camcorder from work, unsure how well it would hold up given its age, and took it to Croatia. I'd always had a passion for photography and had grown interested in video and photo diaries from trips. Luckily it came along and I managed to document our holiday in full, capturing the essence of what it meant to us and what our friendship means.
Approach
I overlaid the camcorder film footage with stock imagery to build a more authentic 90s feel, and underdeveloped the content in Premiere Pro so it didn't look professionally colour graded. I wanted to keep it rustic and charming so it came across as a home-movie rather than a polished edit.
Outcome
The result is a nostalgic, characterful montage that feels true to the era and the trip, a video to show the grandchildren rather than a slick showreel, and a fair few interactions on TikTok...
